The Republican Party of Texas (RPT) named Larry Hicks, of Houston (Harris County), as the winner of the Volunteer of the Year (VOY) Award for Senate District 15 at this year's recognition ceremony held recently in Austin.
The RPT honors one volunteer from each senatorial district at the VOY event, which is held in off-election years. The recipients are individuals who have helped accomplish important Republican victories over the last two years.
During the ceremony, Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst gave the keynote address. Attorney General Greg Abbott, Railroad Commissioner Elizabeth Ames Jones, Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson, and Railroad Commission Chairman Michael Williams participated in the program. The entertainment was provided by state Senator Bob Deuell (Greenville) and his band. Comptroller of Public Accounts Susan Combs and Agriculture Commissioner Todd Staples helped sponsor the event, but were unable to attend.
Pictured in the attached photograph are: Dr. Robin Armstrong (RPT Vice Chairman), Larry Hicks, Mrs. Larry (Sharon) Hicks, Tina Benkiser (RPT Chairman), Nelda Eppes (State Republican Executive Committeewoman SD 15), and Josh Flynn (State Republican Executive Committeeman SD 15).
